Museum Monday: Aug 18

It feels like things are accelerating (or is it the Dark Matter Coffee?)? It feels like this is the right path…(get on it !)

Several times in the last 7 days, I have thought something was one way, talked myself out of being upset, offended, whatever ego bullshit, always trying to do the right thing for weary travelers, hopeful parents…we look at these things as ‘signs’ and, man, there have been SOOOO many, and, more frequently. It almost feels like a bell is being struck every time one of these moments unfolds.

This weekend was special with lots of tours and Marky Ray’s event on Saturday. We took a deep look into his long-storied career as a DIY musician, circus performer and guitar tech. His stories flooded the crowded room and gave way to some introspection, some thoughtful conclusions, and great interaction with Jimmy Marcus and other members of Die Warzau (with whom he had toured) along with NIN, Ministry, the Butthole Surfers, and more. Our stories intersected in several places – he remembered meeting me at the Invisible loft at 2024 S Wabash, preparing for filming the Head Like A Hole video at EXIT. He said that Steve Albini and Bob Weston were there installing the studio I had bought from Steve – I love these extra details.

Marky went on to describe the pre-internet DIY struggles to construct a supply chain of playable smashable guitars as Trent’s appetite for splinters grew on the Lolla tour. He went on to share names of guitars, more than I was familiar with, more do it yourself bootstrapping stories (that I am familiar with), and delicious moments for everyone.

It says a lot that in the afternoon during an unconnected tour, Marky was happy to spend 30 minutes chatting to a few people and allowed them to play one of the Frankenstein guitars he constructed out of broken Lolla parts. How awesome. He donated a few books for the museum library, too.

We will edit the event together and make it available as a future Patreon post. There are currently 20 posts up with ‘Packaging’ going live today. It’s just $2 (or more if you like) a month and people (including me) are loving it. It’s so wonderful to put new content up once or twice a week, and now we need an off site server as the digital collection grows!

Will all of this acceleration, we’re really looking forward to seeing a bunch of you while NiN is playing in Chicago! Check dates and times for tours this week HERE! So much news in the works, so many tours, events and announcements soon, THANKYOU
