Museum Monday Feels Special Today
Wow – Museum Monday feels special today; a kind of swaggeringly good week – a ton of small amazing items acquired from Wax Trax graphic arts and photographer visionary Brian Shanley, another special item driven out to us from Ohio on Saturday morning (all will be revealed next week!), and theres a pile of boxes by my door too – it’s crazy! More tours than ever and still, 4.5 years in, I’ve yet to see anyone not completely blown away by the place and the scope and depth of the exhibits. People start talking about coming back before they have left! It’s IMPOSSIBLE to state how important all of these interactions are as we continue to bootstrap the museum. No investment group, nothing but all of us doing it!
The launching of our long awaited Patreon campaign doesn’t just provide a mechanism for people to continue to support – it gives everyone access over my shoulder as we go through boxes, find audio and keep moving forwards. At times, the huge piles of amazing shit are intimidating – but now, with the prospect that the fruits of archival works can be made available and visible inject this whole enterprise with such excitement and delight, to be discovering and preserving these items. Of course, we still want you to visit (!!!), but it is so gratifying to know that anyone with $2* can see as much of this as we can describe, scan, video, record and interpret! Yeah, punk AF. There’s already 12 posts u — please be nice as we take this and tweak it wherever it wants to go! (*of course you can give us more than that but we want everyone to have all access!) You can access that HERE
Lastly, thank you so much for all of the birthday wishes! It’s a wild thing to be 66 years old, and as much as I want to marvel at where all of these things are heading (we have a museum!!) and where my drumming body is going (onwards and upwards!), I also want to remind anyone that needs to hear this that 18 months ago, I was trundling around on a walker, excited about accessorizing it with padded handles and thinking about racing stripes, 60 lbs heavier, and no thoughts of drumming or much really about the future. And look at me now! Cleaning toilets and doing the dishes at the museum, and getting ready to take out the trash! Ha! More importantly, getting back to my drumming in a very serious way, and getting ready to take this museum wherever it can go! Let’s rock (sober if you want!) — we got this!
thankyou for being awesome
