Museum Monday: The Last of 2025

MUSEUM MONDAY: DEC 29

What an amazing week of events to end the year, visits from a father and son, a family with their 8 year old banging on my drums, a wedding! (our first), and so many visits from local and out of town fans of all descriptions. THANKYOU!

I am, of course, going to mention having you vote for us in the Chicago Reader poll which ends soon (here). Honestly, to have Jay & Austin choose the Museum as the place for them to exchange vows and begin the next phase of their life together is pretty much all of the endorsement we need! But, having said that, it’s a very useful thing to be able to say ‘voted top three in the Chicago Reader poll three years on a row!’ for the sceptics, nay sayers and the establishment…. so, please consider voting!

After some weirdness with the audio archival systems downstairs, we are now back up and running and that’s important as we just discovered un-released Michael Gira and Jarboe recordings from 1994 that need to be archived, along with WAW (Wobble Atkins Walker) demos, and so much more! We also received Jaz Colemans’ intimate notebook with ideas and lyrics from the Killing Joke Democracy album – more scanning and archiving there, too. I shared a quick look at some pages on a recent zoom call, but the job of scanning at a decent resolution and archiving is laborious (but necessary!)!

If you are an artist coming through Chicago and you want to inquire about our artist-friendly rates for the AirBnB, please contact us by filling out the form here. If you are a Museum Founder – standby for a special communication in your inbox!

For the rest of you, if you aren’t already a Museum Founder – well, why not? Want to become a Founder and support this wonderful crusade? Go here! If that’s more disposable income than you have available right now, you can suggest an item you have to donate to the collection here or join the Museum Patreon for just $2 a month and receive access to all levels of content – or…..all three!!! yeah yeah yeah.

This year is going to be spectacular!

and don’t forget pre order on the albini Killing Joke demos and more below!

Martin Atkins

Chicago ILLANNOYS

PRE-ORDERS AVAILABLE:

We’ve merged forces with Overdrive Recordings in Italy to bring you a special vinyl edition of “EXTREMITIES. The Albini Demos and Live Beginnings ’88”, a raw, essential and indispensable testimony of an era that defined Killing Joke’s history.

On one side you will find the ‘origins’ with the demo sessions, mixed by Steve Albini, where essential ideas of Killing Joke’s sound were born. The legendary ‘Black Cassette’ contained these demos!

On the other side there’s a true rarity Excerpts from Martin Atkin’s very first show with the band at Burberries in Birmingham on Dec 20th 1988! That night saw the live debut of Extremities, The Fanatic, Intravenous, Beautiful Dead. A piece of history that would have defined a new era for the band.

Will Ship Out in February 2026. Please limit your order to 2 copies!
