UK Speaking Dates, Father’s Day Events, + More

2024 UK TOUR DATES:

Aug 3- 10

I love putting my presentations together and love it when you love my slides and the stories they conjure up. It really is a luxury to do this – to think for a minute and reflect. I can’t tell you how jarring and emotionally exhausting it was to create slides to remember Keith Levene when he passed on the eve of my last UK visit. Not so much the creation of the slides, but working through them each day for a week. I’m not sure that I navigated it as well as I would have wanted? But under the circumstances and with everyone’s support, we got through it. Memory prompts can be difficult and sometimes I’d breeze through my 14 Keith slides, cracking a too-soon joke to lighten the mood. Other times I’d just get stopped in my tracks as my eyes filled up unexpectedly.

So all this to say, I’m looking forwards to August in the UK, the reflective state that these tours put me in, and the people and stories I get to re-connect with. Plus, I get to hang out with my mom and my sister! Back in the day we were very much whisked  around in and out of venues with not much backstage or hanging around (and lots of physical and internal barriers too). So I’m happy to finally be able to chat with people. I should mention, I’m happy to sign stuff – anything I’ve been involved in really, just do me a favor and maybe stop by early so I can do that before-hand if it’s a pile of stuff. Otherwise, afterwards is good!

Anyway, since the last time I did these we have lost a few significant people from my circle: Keith then Geordie Walker (we did Killing Joke, Murder Inc., and Damage Manual together), Andy Rourke (he was in Killing Joke for two days – maybe three), John’s wonderful wife Nora, and just recently Steve Albini, who engineered KJ demos with me and Geordie, made the first Pigface album and navigated Murder Inc. Sometimes I just have to sit and breathe and soak it all in over at the museum.

I will try to not make these presentations like that part of the Oscars where there’s a ten minute roll call of everyone we lost, and, frankly, I’m nervous about who else we might lose before these events happen. So, in the meantime, be nice, tell someone that you care about them before you can’t, and I’ll see you on the road.
