Museum Monday: April 6

video from Martin Atkins as we approach 4/11 Flowers Revisited and PPIM’s 5th Birthday!

MUSEUM MONDAY:

As we approach our 5th anniversary its a great time to sit and think for a minute… I sat around on my own yesterday after our Flowers Revisited rehearsals and thought for a bit…

What a lucky bastard I am to be doing this – jumping into projects from 35 (Extremities) and 45 (Flowers) years ago! I do not take this lightly – especially with my difficulties after my spine and hip operations over the last few years. I don’t want to sound like a hallmark card or a new fizzy drink – attesting to the bold power of music – but fucking hell – it IS amazing! Not always; of course sometimes it’s the opposite, or it’s amazing when you’re shit (which works to pull you up), or its shit when you’re amazing and you can insert your energy into helping it survive, or any combination in between – ya know?

I’ve also been hyper-local (apart from my work down in Decatur), and LOVING Bridgeport and all of our neighbours in this amazing community. It almost feels like some of the promise of the internet was a massive hoax and all the good stuff is actually just 40 houses to the left or right all along.

……Anyway, as I say in my video, music and community have been my salvation, and if you need a bit of that and find yourself without the funds to get to Reggies on Saturday – FFS, send me a message and I’ll put a few of yaz on my guest list so you can experience the uplift! Theres a live stream too – I need to figure out how to do free tix on that so give me a minute.

The band is amazing and I’m so happy to be working with Chris and Orville and Alan and Alicia and Layla and Robert.

Start a band, be magnificent, make small crappy imperfect things.

Lets rock – you are awesome!

PPIM Presents:
An Original Listening Experience

The unveiling of PPIM’s custom-built engineering monitors in conjunction with Illinois State University

Fri April 24, 7:00pm

Sat April 25, 2:00pm

Join us for this unique, intimate, seated event in the museum’s main showroom. We will play tracks you’ve never heard before through a pair of custom-made speakers, the sound of which you’ve likely never experienced.

This event celebrates the arrival of a set of unparalleled engineering monitors custom-designed by Aaron Paolucci and built by his students at Illinois State University. These speakers were created for cutting-edge transparency and three-dimensional sound fields, pushing the limits of sound quality. In a world of earbuds, low-end speakers, and secondary music, it’s a rare opportunity to hear pivotal tracks in our archive through such a uniquely crafted system.

While we can’t say exactly what you’ll hear at this event, we can tell you that the museum’s audio archives feature artists connected to many of the artifacts and sections throughout our main gallery, where the intimate seating for this event will take place.

Unreleased material could include:

  • PiL

  • Skinny Puppy

  • Nine Inch Nails

  • My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult

  • RX from Ohgr and Atkins

  • Swans

  • Cynthia Plaster Caster

  • China Dub Soundsystem

  • + more

This project has been made possible through a partnership with the School of Creative Technologies within the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts at Illinois State University. Aaron Paolucci instructed and guided students, Aries Clark, Teala Torres, Harley Meyers, Finley Hast, Sam Machek, and Lucas Ford, to build these monitors based on Aaron’s original design.

Refreshments provided.

We look forward to hosting you for this special event!

There are so many upcoming events at the Museum as we celebrate our 5th birthday!!

We, of course, have regular (mis)Guided Tours with Martin live through weekends in June. If you’re in town for any number of festivals happening this summer (like Slideaway, Motoblot, Disastressfest), catch a tour while you’re around!

We’re welcoming Curse Mackey for an exclusive reading and signing event for his new book THE SOUND PHILOSOPHY: An Artist’s Survival Guide, and the following day he’ll be guest-(mis)Guiding tours! Later in May, we’ll celebrate Trent Reznor’s birthday with a NiN Day – a tour and special listening session with Martin! In June, we’re looking forward to welcoming Matt Schultz and Tristan Rudat to the Museum or an exciting union between the Anti-Tank Guitar and PPIM.

There’s a lot going on and, we’re sure, more to come! You can find all upcoming event details below!
