Museum Monday (All Day Wednesday)
IT. JUST. WON’T. STOP.
FIRST! Saturday is set to be wild in our neighborhood here in Bridgeport, 14 bands at Ramova including our friends Ganser, free bagels at Let’s Boogie Records, and Free Museum Day starting at 2pm right HERE (when you register and use code 0117). If you’re not in the area – we have a zoom event celebrating my first two gigs with PiL – Jan 17 & 18, 1980 we performed at Le Palace in Paris, France – the recordings became the live album, Paris Au Printemps. Register for the online event HERE.
You know how I feel about lists…..well, actually, I’m not sure I know how I feel about lists, but let me continue. I came across Consequences ‘best Industrial Songs of All Time’ list recently. At first I ignored it, but then thought, as the Museum guy instead of just the bystander – it might be an opportunity to do two things: 1 – have a quick check to see how the Museum doing in terms of coverage across the list. 2 – to think about what might be missing – whether it’s in the Museum or not. The list is from 2023 but it says ‘of all time’ so it’s still useful! I put the list into a spreadsheet so I can make comments. I also put in a score between 1-10 in column A as a measurement of whether we have objects (1-3) or a wide spread of amazing unique things (7-10).
My arbitrary score for the Museum is 402/500 – surprisingly good, really. I wanted to give some areas of the museum 50 out of 10 for the insane depth of our coverage – but that’s not the point of this exercise. The list of items we have in each column is by no means exhaustive or comprehensive – it’s just me sitting here with a cup of coffee remembering – but you’ll get the idea.
Off the top of my head (and I think we will set up a separate response list for your suggestions too), there seems to be quite a few omissions… I’m going to chat about that on our Patreon, too (Test Department, Foetus, Chemlab, Evil Mothers, Rx, Lab Report, Hilt, Die Warsau and so much more,) but that’s for another day. I also saw a similar list concentrating on Post Punk – so we will have to look at that in a few weeks, too. As I said, however we feel about these lists, it’s a handy check to see where we are and how we are doing.
Lastly, I know I have started some of these messages with a summary of new donations or discoveries during a few weeks here or there and commented that, especially in the beginnings of the Museum and up to 18 months ago when most memorably the earliest NiN demo cassette was returned to us, well, It. Just. Wont. Stop. Almost every day for the last week there have been humbling discussions and offers as people contact us with the most amazing new contributions – some are on the way, some in process, its amazing.
Thank you so much for all of your support – whether it’s a material contribution, a donation or just spreading the word – what a great time to discover us! There are 1500 founders so far and growing on the daily – thank you!
