Museum Monday: The Founders’ Screen

I can’t believe it has taken almost 5 years to do this. I know we have been busy, but hell! Dylan mounted a screen in the foyer, and now we have a 20 Minute scrolling video of all of the Founders’ names running constantly. Last night I was about to shut everything off, but I just left it – I liked the idea of everyone’s names silently scrolling. Someone asked if I can set up a web cam so they can see their name go by – I’m at least going to do a remote zoom for sure…not sure when/if I will turn it off.

The AirBnb is just delighting everyone that stays, and I love the change of pace – or more rightly, an atmosphere that doesn’t include me blabbering all over the place. Although, with the recent addition of 32 QR codes throughout the 5000sq.ft space – maybe it does…

There are some big announcements coming – of course there are! If you are close to Decatur IL, please consider braving the cold and coming out tomorrow, Tuesday January 27 to see 15 local artists performing, as my Millikin Music Business students try and create some momentum for the Oakwood community at Lock Stock and Barrel club on the corner. There are Museum events all over this weekend (fri/sat/sun) – and I’m spinning early at Jungle Tap Room at The Plant on Sat 31st Jan early! 7pm, I think – it’s an all dayer celebrating Gil Castro’s birthday that starts at 1pm – all ages!

Music, artists and creativity perhaps seem trivial in any time of crisis? That in the face of overwhelming problems we despair of solutions that seem outside of our grasp. In many ways, I’ve never felt so much hope as I do now, so much community and connected-ness. The Museum grew out of the despair of the pandemic and desire for connections. We are going to think about ways to create more of that!

Hang in there and be as nice as you possibly can to as many people as you can. If you want to visit this weekend but don’t have the means to do that – send me a note and I’ll sort you out.
