Museum Monday: Tear Garden, Cold Waves Brunch, and more!

We’ve had good weeks for sure off and on. But this last week was wild even by our standards.

Two events with Lol Tolhurst, co-founder of The Cure. What a delightful hang and over three hours of talking. You’ll be able to check that on the Patreon soon. Meanwhile, his Goth book is here. Watch out for a signed copy in our next auction.


And then Thursday, seeing Tear Garden at Bottom Lounge for the opening of Cold Waves was really delightful and a very different kind of music. I was struck by, of course, Cevin’s drumming, but also Edward Ka-Spel’s distinctive lyrical voice throughout was a pleasure.

But what was really wonderful was spending the Friday morning before the band departed the Airbnb, chatting in the studio, listening to stuff, and telling stories.

The band signed posters, boots, the wall.

It was truly wonderful.

I missed Pig at Cold Waves. This weekend is always really busy for us.

But the brunch on Sunday was a reminder that five years ago, it was almost the end of the museum. The brunch was designed as a kind of a flag wave goodbye. We did it for six months — Who has a museum for six months anyway? But it was so meaningful and I connected with people I hadn’t met before.

So I decided to keep this going until Christmas 2021. And that became Cold Waves 2022. And here we are. It was great to hang with Robert Sinclair, who was part of the reason I kept going in 2021, sitting with his family, his daughter Skylor.

And this year, he donated a Paul Raven shirt, which kind of stopped me in my tracks. He said, ‘two people a month are going to see this in my basement.”

And an hour after he donated the shirt, 20 people came in for the next whiskey pancake brunch. 20 people saw it immediately, and now it’s hanging in the museum.

Thanks, Robert. Cold Waves was a blast. It’s always great to hug Pat Duffy and see Scary Lady Sarah for the fifth time in almost as many days. Black Cross Hotel, Spike Hellis — all delivered. I got Jason Novak to sign the Acumen Nation Vinyl, which, along with some test pressings from Jim Semonik from Distortion Productions, are now upstairs in the Airbnb.
